How much does an MVP cost in 2026?

Short answer: anywhere from €299 to €80,000, and the gap is not about quality. It is about who builds it, how much of the work is automated, and how wide you let the scope grow. Here are the real numbers, what explains the spread, and the only question that should decide your budget.

Three things explain almost all of it.

Billing model. Agencies and freelancers sell days of work. If your project takes twenty days, you pay twenty days, regardless of what actually ships. A fixed-price studio sells an outcome, which forces the scope to stay honest.

Scope creep. Most of the money in a €30,000 MVP goes into features nobody has asked for yet. An MVP exists to answer one question, not to be complete. Every feature you add before you have users is a bet placed blind.

Automation. This is the genuinely new factor. AI now writes a large share of the code, which collapses execution time. What it does not do is decide what to build, review what it produced, secure the data or deploy it properly. That remaining work is what separates a stalled prototype from a product that runs, and it is where a serious studio spends its time.

How this compares in the United States

The figures above reflect the European market. If you are pricing an MVP in the US, the scale shifts up sharply and it is worth knowing by how much before you take a quote at face value.

Two consequences follow. First, a US founder comparing quotes will find the European range surprisingly low for equivalent work, which is why a growing share of early-stage products are built by European studios. Second, the hourly model is where budgets escape: at $100 an hour, a scope that drifts by two weeks costs $8,000 more, and nobody writes that on the initial quote.

MVP cost by type of product

The averages hide a lot. What actually drives the number is the kind of product you are building.

The pattern is consistent: what costs money is not the interface, it is everything that has to be true behind it. Two user types instead of one roughly doubles the work. Real payments add compliance. Store publication adds a review cycle you do not control.

What about a mobile app MVP?

This is the most common follow-up question, and the answer stings. A native app for iOS and Android is the most expensive format on the market: €15,000 to €60,000, because it means two codebases, a backend, and app store review. Add $99 a year for an Apple developer account, $25 once for Google, and several days of waiting on every update.

To test a mobile idea, starting there is almost always the wrong call. The alternative costs a hundred times less: a mobile-format web app that opens in the phone browser and installs on the home screen like a real app. Your testers get the same experience, you wait for nobody's approval, and you fix things live. If the usage is there, you then invest in native with real data to justify it. The other way round, you would have spent €30,000 to discover nobody downloads it.

How much should you actually spend?

Forget the price lists for a second and answer one question: what are you trying to find out?

• You want to see what your idea could look like. An AI tool subscription is enough.
• You want an internal tool for yourself or your team. No-code is a good effort-to-result trade.
• You want to know whether people would actually use it. You need a working product in real hands, on a real URL. That is an MVP.
• You already have users and revenue. Now a €30,000 build makes sense, because you are buying capacity, not certainty.

The most expensive mistake is spending an agency budget on an idea nobody has validated. The second most expensive is spending six months alone in a tool and never showing anything to anyone.

What must always be included, whatever you pay

• The source code. Non-negotiable. Without it you cannot change provider or evolve the product. Ask before signing, with us as with anyone.
• Deployment and hosting access in your name, not the provider's.
• A written scope before any payment. If nobody can tell you what will be delivered, nobody can tell you what it should cost.
• A clear answer on what happens after delivery, so you are not left alone with code nobody understands.

The costs nobody puts on the quote

Whatever you pay for the build, four running costs follow it, and they are small enough that most quotes skip them and large enough to matter when you are counting.

• Domain name: €10 to €15 a year. Buy it yourself, in your own name, before anyone else does it for you.
• Hosting: free to €25 a month for an early-stage web app. Modern platforms have generous free tiers that carry a first product comfortably.
• Transactional email: free up to a few thousand messages a month, then €10 to €30. Needed the moment you have accounts.
• Changes after delivery: the real variable. At agency rates a small change is half a day, so €250 to €400. This is the line to negotiate before signing, not after.

Budget €150 to €400 for the first year of running costs on a normal early-stage product. Anyone quoting you thousands for hosting an MVP is selling you something you do not need yet.

In short

An MVP costs between €1,500 and €80,000 from traditional providers, a monthly subscription plus a lot of your time if you build it yourself, and €299 from the new generation of AI-assisted studios. The right question is never "how much does an MVP cost". It is "how little can I spend to find out whether this idea holds", and that answer rarely needs to run into five figures.
